The Nuffield Centre for International Health and Development conducts high quality research and research-uptake activities to improve population health and health systems in low and middle income and among low income communities residing in high income countries who originated from low and middle income countries Our research aims to increase understanding of the health needs and how health systems at both a population and community level can be better configured to become more efficient and effective in improving health. Also, we develop and test interventions which address weaknesses in health systems and services that have been identified as priorities by policy makers, communities and existing evidence. We also concentrate on improving the relevance and effectiveness of research approaches and methods for use in resource-poor contexts. We use quantitative, qualitative and mixed-methods as appropriate to allow us to understand health needs, diagnose how a health system functions (and can be strengthened) at policy, management, facility and community levels.
