Established strengths between engineering, advanced manufacturing, physics, chemistry and medicine have created an outstanding environment for developing new technologies in surgery. Supporting infrastructure in Leeds includes: the Centre for Advanced Manufacturing, Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) National Facility for Innovative Robotic Systems, National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Healthcare Technologies in Colorectal Therapies, EPSRC/NIHR IMPRESS, two NIHR Medtech and In vitro diagnostics Co-operatives (MICs), Leeds Centre for Personalised Medicine & Health. This infrastructure is complemented by world-leading expertise in clinical translation and evaluation. Surgical specialities include colorectal, vascular, hepatopancreaticobiliary and plastics.
