International Law
Taught
Course description
This course will provide you with an in-depth understanding of both public and private international law and will equip you with the advanced knowledge and skills needed to gain a deeper understanding of the rules and principles that govern the way nations deal with each other. The course is ideal if you want to broaden your knowledge across international boundaries as well as if you are looking to work in legal practice or commercial legal work within corporations, non-governmental organisations or in government. The course combines the study of eight option modules chosen from a broad range of topics. Through these modules, you will gain an excellent insight into the foundations, general principles and current trends of international law, as well as the subject areas of international trade and finance, corporate law, world trade and environmental law.
You will conduct independent legal research throughout the course, culminating in your dissertation.
The International Law LLM stream will allow you to acquire the specialist knowledge and skills to further enhance your professional career. You will also develop your practical transferable skills including advanced verbal and written communication skills, presentation and planning.
Teaching and learning
You will be taught mainly through interactive online seminars where you will test your understanding by engaging in critical discussion of the topics with your fellow students. Before each seminar you will research the answers to a set of questions and come prepared to discuss your ideas and findings.
