Course Summary

Research overview

This course has been designed to foster critical thinking and to develop your analytical skills by addressing a broad range of material.

Our teaching and research is at the forefront of developments in film and television studies, cultural and media studies, art history, visual studies and critical theory. Our postgraduate students benefit from leading research expertise across these areas.

The Department of Cultural, Media and Visual Studies leads the Institute for Screen Industries Research, an ideas incubator for the film and TV industry.

Graduate Destinations

Our postgraduates go onto work in a range of fields, from university lectureships and post-doctoral fellowships to roles in the media, art councils and the creative industries.

Many of our research students publish high-quality books and articles and have secured teaching positions in universities both in the UK and abroad.

Operating on a global scale, and with often large budgets at stake, the film, television and screen industries want to ensure their products reach the widest audience possible. They also want to be able to measure the size of these audiences.
