Course Summary

Bring your graduate expertise, skills and enthusiasm to the imaginative and practical teaching of history to children of all abilities from 11 to 18. Our full-time, one year PGCE programme in history will qualify you for the 11-16 national standards for qualified teacher status (QTS) set by the Department for Education. The 24 weeks placement experience will sharpen your skills and fully prepare you for your future teaching career.

Modules

This module gives trainees the opportunity to further practice and demonstrate their skills as a trainee teacher and to make the transition from 'trainee teacher' to 'beginning teacher' in a second school placement. School Practice will normally be for 17 weeks (five days in a Primary school and 16 weeks in a Secondary school) plus four Faculty days to review and share the experience.

Entry requirements

GCSE grade4/grade C (or equivalent) in English and mathematics. An honours degree (2:2 or above), or equivalent, from a recognised university. Your degree should be closely related to your chosen subject specialism. There is also a requirement to pass minimum standards for literacy and numeracy.
