As a doctoral student in the Department of Languages and Cultures at the University of Reading, you will contribute to our interdisciplinary research culture, and benefit from the mentoring provided by an integrated and supportive research community with an international outlook. We offer PhD programmes in:French StudiesGerman StudiesItalian StudiesSpanish and Latin American StudiesTranslation StudiesComparative and Intercultural Studies. Translation studies looks at processes and techniques of cross-linguistic and cross-cultural mediation. We support doctoral projects in translation interfacing with French, Italian, German, Spanish, and Arabic languages and cultures. In the field of translation studies we support doctoral research investigating: the relationship between translation and publishing in a variety of national domains. Our students explore the rich holdings of our world-leading Special Collections and the Archive of British Publishers and Printing. Our students contribute to the research activities of the Centre for Book Cultures and Publishing. the application of textual, linguistic, and discourse analysis approaches to translation across different genres, modes, domains, and media.
