The MSc Sport Injury Rehabilitation programme is designed to advance the knowledge, skills, and abilities of sports rehabilitators, sports therapists, physiotherapists, and other allied health professionals working in sports injury rehabilitation and prevention.

Recognised as the first exercise rehabilitation master’s in Europe by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), this course is delivered by leading experts in the field. The programme combines theoretical online content with high-practical contact sessions on campus, including keynote addresses, practicals, and seminar sessions that are immediately applicable to professional practice.

Please note: Due to the programme’s structure, it is not available to applicants who require a Student Visa.

All about the course

The MSc programme is available as either a full-time or part-time option:

Full-time: Runs over three academic semesters, from October to September of the following year. You can exit with the following awards:

  • Postgraduate Certificate: Completion of one module
  • Postgraduate Diploma: Completion of two modules
  • Master's (MSc): Completion of two modules plus a dissertation

What will I be doing?

Teaching: The course uses a blended learning approach, which includes:

  • Workshops: Three days per module, per semester, featuring interactive, discursive, reflective, participatory, and practice-related sessions. As the programme progresses, workshops become increasingly student-led, with presentations of case studies for peer and tutor review.
  • Individual Scholarly Activity: Includes self-directed learning, personal reflection, and practice-based application, supported by peer and tutor review.
  • Distance Learning Resources: Online study guides and lecture materials.
  • Personal Tutor and Peer Support: Provides academic, practice-based, and personal support, along with facilitated networking.

Assessment: Assessment methods vary by module and include:

  • Case studies (written and oral presentations)
  • Viva voce
  • Literature review
  • Practical assessments
  • Journal articles (research reports in journal article format)
  • Research proposal

Entry requirements

BSc (Hons) graduates with an appropriate sports injury related subject area (Physiotherapy, Sports Rehabilitation, Sports Therapy, Osteopathy, Chiropractic, Sports Medicine Physician). Prospective students will normally be required to have achieved a 2.1 Honours Degree, but consideration will be given to students with a 2.2 Honours Degree with appropriate experience and satisfactory references. We welcome applications from students who may not have formal/traditional entry criteria but who have relevant experience or the ability to pursue the course successfully.
