Course Summary

Our Global Ageing and Policy (Distance Learning) programme introduces students to the study of ageing over the life course, focusing particularly on the principles of policy evaluation in ageing societies, and on the opportunities and challenges associated with ageing in specific regions of the world, including China, South-east Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. The PG Certificate in Global Ageing and Policy (DL) is made up of 3 taught modules and designed to provide a multidisciplinary introduction to gerontology and policy evaluation to busy mid-career professionals, new entrants to the University and the social sciences, or returners to education who wish to pursue the subject area. Students who successfully complete this qualification are welcome to continue their studies with us.

A variety of assessment methods are employed, which include essays, oral presentations, group work, exercises, research reports and the dissertation. All programme modules have their own page on Blackboard. Students are able to access materials (lecture slides, recordings of lectures, coursework details, references and module updates) to supplement their independent study.

Modules

The module involves lectures and guest lectures from different disciplines. Learning activities include lectures, informal group discussions and independent study. Students are expected to carry out some reading in advance of each session, in order to be able to participate in discussions.
