Immunity and Infection

Students on the Immunity and Infection pathway will take this module. The module aims to provide you with an understanding of basic immunity and infection pathology, how these are managed in disease and the underlying mechanisms of pathology; develop your skills in critical appraisal of previously published research; and to enhance your oral skills required for the presentation and interpretation of data.

Short research projects

During your first year, you will undertake three 12-week research projects. You will spend 10 weeks working in a laboratory, with 2 more weeks to complete writing up your findings.

The aims of the short research projects are to provide you with practical experience of biomedical science research with internationally recognised research teams, including planning and conducting a project and independently testing the ideas with appropriate supervision. The projects allow you to gain experience of working in different laboratories and using different techniques to enable you to make informed decisions about your 3-year research project.
