Course Summary

A three-month project follows successful completion of the instructional component. Most projects involve either working on a placement or in partnership with a company or organisation ESF; EPSRC Masters training packages.

Assessment methods (Outcome qualification level): Assessment is made using examinations, presentations, coursework assignments and a final dissertation.

Modules

The first case study is run by a company over one day and focuses on the modelling of a problem that is of current interest. The second case study runs over four days and requires a complex problem to be solved. The techniques used to tackle the problems may be drawn from many of the modules previously studied. The time constraints are such that good teamwork skills are needed to complete the work to a satisfactory standard by the deadline.

An upper second-class honours degree or equivalent qualification approved by the University, in a quantitative subject with a strong Maths background (mathematics, statistics, economics, etc).
