Course info

The course combines historical, theoretical and practical approaches to the subject, covering both the intellectual history of strategic thought and the latest debates about defence policy and military doctrine. The course addresses all major domains of warfare, including sea, land and air, as well as recent technological developments that shape both conventional and nuclear strategy, encouraging students to think about the links between past, present and future warfare. Students get invited to attend the Institute for the Study of War and Strategy’s regular events, which feature not only leading scholars but sometimes also high-level practitioners. The wide-ranging choice of optional modules enables students to tailor the programme’s taught elements to their individual requirements and interests.
