This course is for you if you have experience, or are considering a career, in the development field. Our experts work at the intersection of social anthropology and development studies. Globally, Sussex is well-known for its teaching and research in international development. You’ll also be part of one of the UK’s largest Anthropology departments. Anthropologists approach development at a human scale. They do this through immersive field research and observation. This approach generates fresh insights into complex global challenges. You’ll learn to understand the experiences of those most affected by these challenges. You’ll be able to pursue your own interests in the anthropology of development. This may include the environment, health, poverty, humanitarianism, or rights. The MA focuses on issues of anthropological engagement, development policy and activism.
