Our PhD is among the most diverse in the world, in terms of supervisors and students, and topics being researched. All our doctoral projects engage with the global challenges that face societies across the world today. You’ll work with a range of experts from across the natural and social sciences whose cutting-edge original research has made a significant impact on individuals, institutions, and societies around the world.

Degree requirements: You’re normally expected to have a Merit (an average of 60% of overall) in a master’s degree and an upper second-class (2.1) undergraduate honours degree. Subject-specific requirements: Your qualification should be in a relevant social sciences subject. In exceptional circumstances, you may be considered for the degree if you have a qualification in a different subject area. You may also be considered for the degree if you have other professional qualifications or experience of equivalent standing. We also offer a 1+3 route incorporating the MSc in Social Research Methods or further specialist research training modules within Year 1 for those without the required research training.
