This PhD is the next step to a successful career in quantum technologies in areas such as:practical quantum computersquantum algorithms and quantum error correctionquantum networksquantum sensorsthe modelling power of quantum simulators.Quantum technology is one of the UK Government’s five key strategic priorities. Graduates from this course could be in high-demand for well-paid and interesting jobs that make meaningful contributions to society.This four-year degree has been designed by leading academics and industry partners. It includes a broad range of taught modules at the University of Sussex and the University of Bristol in Year 1, followed by the research project phase in Years 2-4. You’ll have access to a broad technology base and state-of-the-art facilities at Sussex and Bristol.As a postgraduate researcher, you’ll learn from world-leading academics, industrial collaborators and your peers. You’ll:gain experience of practical application as well as a sound theoretical understanding of quantum physicsdevelop complementary skills – such as commercialisation and science communication – necessary for academic and industrial excellencehave the option of going on industry trips to visit companies and research laboratories working in the quantum fieldhave financial support for academic and industrial secondments, as well as international and national conferences.
