Forensic Science Research Forensic Science graduates have a broad range of expertise and excellent laboratory skills that are applicable to many areas of scientific research. Current research projects in Forensic science at the Paisley Campus of UWS include; forensic toxicology, forensic science education and explosives detection. Forensic science staff and students also contribute to research in following areas; microplastics and health, analysis of fluorocarbons in the environment, drug discovery from microbial sources, sterilisation of medical equipment with ozone, exposure to potentially toxic elements in household items and domestic materials and antimicrobial surfaces and water recycling. Forensic Science students are well placed to develop interdisciplinary skills in chemistry, biology and biophysics to solve biological and physical problems. At UWS students have access to excellent laboratory facilities to support there research including recently purchased Scanning Electron Microscopy, Infrared Microscopy, Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy, qPCR, ICP-MS/AES and NMR spectroscopy. All our lab facilities are well supported with technician staff.
