MRes Cancer Pharmacology and Therapeutics

Our MRes Cancer Pharmacology and Therapeutics is a one-year, research-focused postgraduate course which provides you with training for careers in a professional environment, such as the pharmaceutical industry, or in preparation for a PhD in medical research. The course places a strong emphasis on developing laboratory-based research skills and critical thinking. Through a six-month lab-based research project, the MRes course provides you with the opportunity to acquire both background knowledge and practical skills in cancer research, and to put them into practice by carrying out cutting-edge research with a real-world impact. What is an MRes? A Master of Research (MRes) is a research-based postgraduate degree. It is different from usual Masters degrees because it focuses more on a larger, independent research project (under the oversight of an academic supervisor). Working with your chosen supervisor in the first semester, you will design an individual research project, or propose one yourself, around one of the current research themes at the School of Medicine and Biosciences. During your second and third semesters, you will be working full-time in research labs on your own project, working next to doctoral and predoctoral graduate students. The longer, more ambitious projects undertaken during an MRes allow you to carry out substantial research which often produce results that contribute to research grants and publications.
