Course Summary

Theatre and performance is a rapidly expanding area of research in the London College of Music, which has over 130 years of teaching within the performing arts industries.Our Theatre PhD is supported by staff who are engaged in a range of specialisms that combine practice-led research and advanced professional practice with theoretical and technical analysis.Performing arts research covers a range of thematic interests in contemporary performance practices, global performance cultures and histories and collaborative research projects with the Music team. We welcome applications for doctoral research in both traditional and progressive disciplines, including:theatre and performance studiescultural studiesgender, diversity and creativity within theatre and performance areashistorical studiestheatre pedagogycritical theory in theatre and performancerecovery arts and arts for health and wellbeingmusical theatrecabarettraditional dramaturgycollaborative devisingnew writing and script development community theatre.

Entry requirements

The minimum entry requirements for a research degree are:

a good first degree (First Class or Upper Second Class), or equivalent qualification in a relevant field

a Masters Degree (MA, MSc, MBA or MRes) with Merit, or equivalent postgraduate or research experience.
