This Masters course in Emergency Planning Resilience and Response will provide you with an opportunity for you to develop master’s level education in the concepts theories and academic skills for emergency planning, resilience, business continuity and disaster management and recovery .The course caters for professionals who may already be working in this field or those wishing to embark on a career in emergency planning. The course aims to offer a flexible approach to the subjects studied and those already working in this area will be able to develop further their knowledge skills and experience. The course will ensure you develop a sound working knowledge of the principles and practice of emergency planning and the underpinning policy. You will develop valuable skills in communication and strategic leadership. You will also develop a wide range of inter-personal skills for effective use in multi-agency teams. There will be opportunities to take part in exercises and training in simulated emergency settings with a wide range of professional and other Key Stakeholders and organisations involved in emergency planning.

You may study the course as a whole and decide on your final award title of MSc Emergency Planning. It is envisaged that this award will have two intermediate awards :

  • PG Cert Management of Passenger Transport Emergency Incidents
  • PG Cert Emergency Planning Resilience and Response
  • PG Dip Emergency Planning Resilience and Response

Modules

This module provides an examination of the framework, legislation and guidance which forms the foundation of emergency planning, resilience and response within the UK whilst exposing key lessons which can be learnt from other countries and disasters. You will also examine the tools and intricacies of risk identification, assessment and management which form the foundation of planning for emergencies in the UK and discover concepts which challenge these processes. This module will also provide for the development of academic skills such as writing, referencing, reading, searching the literature and thinking critically and creatively.& nbsp; This will enable you to obtain the most from your studies, enable you to engage in mastering subjects across the field, and& nbsp;demonstrate your knowledge through activities and assignments.

Entry requirements

Normally candidates for this course will hold a first degree or evidence of level 6 / 7 study achieved at or above a minimum pass grade or equivalent However, candidates will be considered for the course that have experience related to the areas of study for example already working in emergency planning resilience and response.
