Course Summary

Catering both to students currently working in health and social care and those looking to enter those fields, this course develops your knowledge and understanding of relevant theories, concepts, policies and evidence within the field of health and social care. A heavy focus is placed on providing opportunities to build a base of academic and professional knowledge and skills which you may tailor and apply to your own specific career needs. You will explore contemporary issues in health, the health needs of individuals and groups, how they are affected and how health is experienced and improved through intervention at a local, national and global level. Modules

The module will enable you to critically evaluate and assess research in the health and / or social care fields. Whether you are currently working in the sector, or hope to pursue a career in these fields, this module will assist you in appraising the quality of research in order that it might be assessed for use in evidence-based, best practice. This module will provide you with the specialist knowledge of research within health and social care. You will explore and critique methodological approaches to research, quantitative and qualitative methods of sampling, data collection and data analysis. You will develop the compulsory skills required to conduct an advanced electronic literature search, synthesise and evaluate the reliability and validity of research within a chosen area of health and/ or social care. With this knowledge, you will explore ethical issues in research and research design evaluating its effectiveness for a chosen area in health and / or social care.

You should have an honours degree or equivalent, although substantial professional experience will be considered. We accept graduates with an honours degree in a wide variety of subjects, and graduates from disciplines other than health may well be eligible for entry.
