The University of Wolverhampton’s MSc in Strength and Conditioning is an advanced Master's programme intended to provide students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to succeed in this rapidly growing field.

A strength and conditioning (S&C) Master's degree equips students with advanced knowledge and skills in designing, implementing, and evaluating fitness programs for athletes. Students who enrol in this programme are usually already working as coaches or trainers, but want to advance their careers by obtaining a higher level of education. The curriculum focuses on the science behind exercise physiology, biomechanics, nutrition and sports psychology.
This course will allow you the opportunity to develop key competencies in strength & conditioning coaching, and challenge you to develop your theoretical knowledge, applied experiences and research skills towards becoming an evidence-based S&C practitioner.
The University of Wolverhampton has longstanding partnerships with a number of sporting organisations which add value to our educational programmes, including guest lectures from experienced applied practitioners and opportunities for students to gain applied experience.
The Strength and Conditioning Master’s has been developed in consultation with The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity and aligned to the professional standards developed by CIMSPA in collaboration with the UK Strength and Conditioning Association.
What happens on the course?
During the MSc Strength and Conditioning course, you will study the underlying principles of S&C science and the multifaceted role of the S&C practitioner. The applied and practical nature of the course will equip you with the skills required to work with athletes and clients of different ages, abilities and demographics in designing and implementing bespoke training programmes to enhance athletic performance and health and wellbeing.
You will benefit from the insights of experienced S&C coaches and practitioners from related disciplines, and you will have opportunities to gain valuable applied experience and coaching qualifications alongside the course. There is an emphasis on technical coaching skills and the integration of S&C into the wider interdisciplinary performance setting.

Full time fee £15950 per year and it is a guide for part time students. The fee mentioned is for 2024-25 academic year and there may be a slight increase in the fee for 2025-26 entry.
Academic Pathway: A degree classification of 2:2 or above in a related subject area. Work Experience Pathways: Any degree subject area and 12 – 24 months of supervisory work experience in a related sport setting, demonstrating knowledge of the subject matter you are interested in pursuing or 3 – 5 five years of relevant managerial work experience, demonstrating in-depth knowledge of the sector for the subject matter you are interested in pursuing.
