This new Masters course will provide students with an opportunity to develop knowledge in the concepts and theories for emergency planning, resilience, business continuity and disaster management.

This course is suitable for those who are already working within emergency planning as well as those looking to embark on a career within the field.

The course aims to offer a flexible approach to the subjects studied and those already working in this area will be able to develop further their knowledge skills and experience. You will develop valuable skills in communication and strategic leadership. You will also develop a wide range of inter-personal skills for effective use in multi-agency teams. There will be opportunities to take part in exercises and training in simulated emergency settings with a wide range of professional and other Key Stakeholders and organisations involved in emergency planning.

Modules

This module will enable you to explore the fundamental issue of communicating before, during and after emergencies, including the effective management of information and decision making. You will critically examine communication/information strategies gaining insight into some of the complex problems associated with engaging and supporting the community in resilience and recovery. The module will also allow you to develop your presentation skills and allow you to undertake an in-depth case study of an emergency incident.

The full-time fee for 2021/22 entry is: £4650 per year and it is a guide for part time students. There might be slight increase in fee for 2022/23 entry.

Entry requirements

Normally candidates for this course will hold a first degree or evidence of level 6 / 7 study achieved at or above a minimum pass grade or equivalent However, candidates will be considered for the course that have experience related to the areas of study for example already working in emergency planning resilience and response.
