This course is designed to aid students from a range of backgrounds in building confidence and knowledge in general practice settings. Your clinical skills, underpinned with the latest theoretical knowledge, will be developed for the delivery of person-centred care to individuals, practice population and communities. Course and module leaders are experts in general practice nursing, with experience in research and publishing writing on community nursing and public health, whose knowledge will inform your learning in whichever modular approach you take to your curriculum. Upon completion of your course, you will be able to competently practice as a General Practice Nurse, meeting the workforce demands within General Practice and Primary Care.

Modules

This module aims to advance the fundamental skills, knowledge and confidence required for new GP nurses to practice and lead and manage teams in primary care. The module focuses on treating the breadth of patient conditions with a safe, competent, and ethical approach to practice. Men and women’s health and complex long-term conditions such as mental health and cancer care and ‘End of Life Care’ will be explored in the context of the practice population and primary care.

Entry requirements

Applicants will normally have a first degree, BSc (Hons) at 2.2 or above (in a relevant subject, or equivalent). Minimum of 60 credits at level 6 (studied within the last 5 years). Applicants will hold live registrant status as an adult registered nurse / child registered nurse/ specialist community public health nurse, on the Nursing and Midwifery Council register. Applicants must be new to General Practice Nursing: within 12 months of employment. This will need to be verified by the GP employer within a reference of support to study.
