The Postgraduate Certificate course has been written to meet the Practice Educator Professional Standards for Social Work. The programme will enable you to support and assess social work students on placement and enhance your leadership skills. You will develop your knowledge alongside your employment and be provided with evidence to meet the continuing professional development requirements from the regulator Social Work England.

The course provides a continuous professional development framework for social care professionals. Graduates from this programme will be highly competitive candidates for further postgraduate study at MSc, MPhil and PhD level.

What will you study?

To complete the PG Cert in Advanced Social Work Practice you will need to complete all 4 mandatory modules. However, if you only wish to complete the Practice Educator modules you can exit with a Postgraduate Award in Professional Development: Social Work Practice Education.

Our courses are informed by research and current developments in the discipline and by feedback from students, external examiners and employers. Modules do therefore change periodically in the interests of keeping the course relevant and reflecting best practice. The most up-to-date information will be available to you once you have accepted a place and registered for the course. If there are insufficient numbers of students interested in an optional module, this might not be offered, but we will advise you as soon as possible and help you choose an alternative.

Applicants need to be registered social workers. The Assessed and Supported Year in Employment module will recruit directly from local authority partners.
