The International Project Management MSc is designed to provide you with a strategic understanding of project management principles and applications in a practical and structured way.
In order to be able to make the necessary decisions of which method to use and when, project managers and project teams must have a deep knowledge and understanding of the different options available to them. The course will provide you with core knowledge around the foundations of project management, including the tools, techniques and processes that may be required. The international business world today is complex, with many global organisations delivering projects in up to 150 different countries. On this module you will address the challenges and opportunities facing global organisations to deliver successful projects, in order to achieve set business strategic goals. You will examine various project management methodologies and structures in different cultural and country situations. This will highlight differences in global corporate laws and ethical considerations.
Managing risks is fundamental to the success of a project. The process of identifying, analysing, and responding to emerging risks over the life cycle of a project is key to ensure objectives are met and the project stays on track. A risk is anything that can potentially impact your projects timeline, performance, resource, or budget. Further exploration in this module will cover the psychology of risks, probability and occurrence and contingency management.

Leading a cross cultural team in an international project is often overlooked. On this module you will learn to translate theories and concepts suggested by key leadership authors. You will apply a practical approach using case studies from a range of industries, countries and cultures. You will investigate cultural differences and their effects on working attitudes and practices, exploring different working, management, and communication styles. You will also address the advantages of cultural diversity in international project work to reduce cross-cultural misunderstandings.
The ever-changing business world requires us to understand the distinct differences between Change Management and Continuous Business Improvement. Change Management is a structured approach that seeks to ensure that any changes made to a business, are implemented correctly and that the ongoing benefits of a particular change are achieved over time. Continuous Business Improvement is an ongoing, long-term approach to improve processes, products and services. On this module you will develop an understanding of the above and examine international examples of transformational change management initiatives and continuous improvement projects.
The Applied Research Project is designed to empower you to develop an advanced and critical ability to investigate, select, analyse, refine and develop creative solutions in order to reach evidence-based conclusions. You will be guided in your project selection and research journey, allowing decisions to be personalised to your studies, career aspirations and personal interests. You will also have the opportunity, particularly if you have embarked on the MSc International Project Management with Year in Industry, to critically reflect on personal learning experiences.
