Course Summary

The aims of the course are to provide students with specialised training in rural land and estate management. Specifically, the courses will prepare students for a career as in rural land and property management and offer professional and technical training to that end. Both academic studies and the vocational nature of the course in preparing students for a particular profession are enhanced by the close links of Harper Adams and the land management course team with industry.

The 4 module PgC programme and the 8 module PgD programme choose from the same module suite as the Master's courses in Rural Estate and Land Management. The shorter, non-RICS accredited options are typically taken by:

  • Chartered surveyors who qualified in a non-rural discipline and want to gain rural expertise
  • Rural surveyors returning after an extended career break or time working outside the rural sector
  • AssocRICS qualified professionals who are seeking to become chartered surveyors and need further educational credits
  • On a case by case basis, students who do not have the entry requirements for the Master's courses may be offered a place on the Postgraduate Certificate course with a view to transferring to Master's on successful completion.

Modules

Students will develop their understanding of the key academic skills required to study at postgraduate level within their discipline and professional domain. The module is designed to enhance the ability of students to assess, evaluate, and reflect reflexively on information and theory. The key value of the module is that it provides some key underpinning skills required in other modules. The module enables students to become familiar with the appropriate research traditions of their discipline and to analyse, and synthesise and articulate these ideas in a manner appropriate to the level of study. Students will also be encouraged to develop positive study habits through reflection and peer engagement.
