LANCASTER UNIVERSITY
Overall Rating

I've loved my time here, but there is ample room for improvement on the part of the university. Especially in terms of making the place feel like it is a place of education and not a money pot (milking the international students for all they are worth)

Student Union

As a phd student I get very little interaction with the student union

Clubs and Societies

Sports center on campus and lots of events

Uni Facilities

Great, but very overcrowded library, toilet facilities in there are abysmal. The general workspaces are average, not many places to isolate yourself, which is important for some people like me who work best in quiet locations

Course and Lecturers

I'm a phd student so untaught. Just have supervisor meetings where I sit down with a supervisor and discuss progress. These could be made more interesting I feel. Sometimes one of my supervisors has not read the work, which is frustrating

City Life

I can drive so it is easy for me to get into town which is around 10 minute drive away. However non driving students on campus have to get the bus into town which takes 25 plus minutes. There's a few pubs on campus, and some places to eat, but town is much better for these

Job Prospects

Occasional workshops, there is a career center, which I went to a few times, but the staff are mainly young students, which is off-putting, as they clearly have little experience finding jobs beyond the one they have (ironically)

Student Support

I've little experience myself but I've heard from friends that there are issues with long waiting times to get help
