Leeds Conservatoire

I decided to come to LCM because of its good reputation for music education. I have had a positive experience so far. LCM could always do more to help integrate their international students though.

The SU provides a lot of services and events to students, especially in freshers’ week.

The societies are rather limited and the ones on offer do not really interest me. Societies are either sports-focused or are musical ensembles which a production student often cannot take part in. there definitely needs to be more extra-curricular events devoted to production students.

I stay in iQ student accommodation which is quite far from LCM. The quality of the flats are very good for students but because of the distance residents are mostly made up of Leeds Uni and Leeds Beckett students.

The equipment in the studios are quite decent. I have encountered problems with using reverb and different effects in the studio, though I have reported this to a technician and LCM try their best to rectify problems.

I learn many things about music; the course is not just focused on production but about music business and creating a career portfolio. In my course, I would like to learn more about sequencing and the use of other DAW programmes, not just Logic software. One of the tricky things to get around is the booking system of the studios which is much too complicated and too dependent on the online system.

Leeds is a great place to live and study but the small size of the city means you are limited in the places you can go visit. I go to cafes and the shops if I want to spend time in the city centre.

I have worked in Korea in the past, and no doubt my attendance in such a prestigious place as LCM will help further my career even more when I return to Korea.

As an international student, I wish there was more help and guidance when it comes to writing essays.
