Generally, the learning aspect of LCM is good but there needs to be much more focus on helping students to perform better and more regularly since it is a MUSIC college.

I have little knowledge of it.

As of yet none, but I intend to do so.

I live at home because student accommodation is too expensive.

The facilities seem good – decent musical equipment in the studios, the Mac studios are a particular strong point.

LCM need to provide more chances for us to perform as a career based on performance is normally what most students aim for. There is a lunchtime recital for classical and jazz students but nothing else that is put on a regular basis for pop musicians. Even with the events they do have, attendance is low and is discouraging to performers. The environment is not comfortable enough for students either because of the lack of interest taken by LCM and as a result, the student who study here as well.

Leeds is a great city if you love clubbing and enjoy wild Saturday nights out. The streets around The Light is a place “where Leeds get social” and there is club music heard everywhere. Of course, stay away if you do not enjoy this type of nightlife scene.

I don’t see much in the way of LCM preparing students for a professional career. The first year did have some focus on this aspect with the Working in the Creative Industries module but the way that module was delivered was extremely poor. The lecture involved going through a PowerPoint which is already available on the VLE, students certainly did not want to go in for a 9am lecture when they could read through the PowerPoint at home themselves. By the end of the academic year, there were probably about 20 students out of 100+ in the year who attended this class. For our business project which was assessed as a group, was unfair on students who worked harder than their team members and LCM do not acknowledge that so the incompetence and laziness of others will affect the outcome of your grade.

The student support department was advertised to us extensively in the first week, it provides help with accommodation, health concerns and other monetary aids. I think it also helps with personal issues such as homelessness and trouble at home etc.
