Liverpool John Moores University can trace its roots back to 1823 and the foundation of Liverpool Mechanics’ and Apprentices’ Library. They have come a long way since then, becoming a university in 1992 and are now ranked 59th in The Complete University Guide 2019 league tables. Throughout their history they have championed education for all; from their earliest students in the nineteenth century through to today’s skilled graduates, who are driving forward twenty-first century innovations and economic success, both in the UK and overseas. They take their name from one of the UK’s most successful businessmen, Sir John Moores, who turned his love of football into a business empire that was worth millions. Born into a working class family, he proved that, with vision and hard work, anyone can achieve success.
