Course Summary

The School of Engineering has a strong culture of research and enterprise. London South Bank University (LSBU) is the top modern university in London for world-leading and internationally excellent research and Grade Point Average in General Engineering -Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014. An MRes is distinct from a taught Masters in that student's final output will be an extended dissertation or creative project relevant to their field of interest, rather than module-based coursework and exams. Students can complete an MRes in one year or part-time over two years, as opposed to a full PhD which can take up to five years. The MRes project can be focused toward a work-based project. Research students are often sponsored to attend national and international conferences and to meet leading scientists in their fields and to present their research findings. The progress of all research students is formally monitored by the University's Research Degree Committee. LSBU is committed to supporting students to develop their employability and succeed in getting a job after they have graduated. Their qualification will certainly help, but in a competitive market students also need to work on their employability, and on their career search.
