Course Summary

The User Experience Design MA programme is designed to help you develop your critiical awareness of major issues in interaction and user experience design. The MA in User Experience Design aims to help you improve your effectiveness as a user centred designer within industry. The content of the User Experience Design programme enables you to develop your skills and competencies in both the creative and analytical aspects of user experience whilst working on a diverse range of projects. Key skills that you will develop include user experience design principles and practice, qualitative and quantitative design research methods, interactive screen based prototyping, interaction design, usability testing, service and social design, team working and project management. The MA in User Experience Design was formerly named Interaction Design and has been renamed User Experience Design to better represent its content. Specialist eye tracking equipment and software is available to support usability evaluations. Audio visual equipment is available to support design research activities including state-of-the-art wearable cameras.

Modules

This module comes under semester 2. The aim of this module is to enable students to further develop their collaboration, communication, reflection and design and innovation skills through effective group working towards the delivery of a high-quality design project, usually for a sponsoring organisation, within agreed timescales. You will be given the opportunity to consolidate your learning through the application of this knowledge in a group assignment.

Entry requirements

Students need to have a 1st or 2:1 honours degree in a relevant subject. Most applicants have a design background but we consider students from a range of disciplines relevant to user experience design, including psychology, computer science and business studies. For those who are not able to provide a portfolio, it is important that their personal statement explains their interest in user experience design and any relevant experience.
