It was not a happy experience. The entire time, I kept feeling like I was waiting for the course to begin. It just never went anywhere. Nonetheless, I worked hard at my projects, took advantage of the facilities, and endeavored to gain knowledge and skills.
On balance, Middlesex University has excellent photography facilities for all its courses. The problem lies within the structure (or lack thereof) of the MA Photography course itself.
Literally nothing is taught on the MA Photography course. Everything I learned was by self-initiative. The course leaders never parted with an iota of useful information or insight, and the so-called Master Classes by visiting photographers were nothing more than presentations on their catalogs of work. Not one of these people actually parted with beneficial information.
There were zero university efforts within the MA Photography course or by its leaders to assist/increase employability.
Awful. In the third month of my MA Photography course, I approached my course leaders with my thoughts and feelings about the lack of course direction. In short, I was reprimanded by the course leader and assistant course leader. They were simply not interested. They were entirely dismissive. I was shocked and appalled by this response.
