Course Summary

Overview

The Cardiovascular Science in Health and Disease MRes is for graduates with a BSc in the life sciences or other science disciplines. It is also open to intercalating and qualified MBBS or BDS students. You can take this as a stand-alone qualification or as an entry route onto a PhD or MD.

You'll develop your own bespoke course with our broad range of taught modules. You'll then begin a 24-week research project in cardiovascular science in health and disease research.

What you'll learn

You'll study subject-specific content in cardiovascular science in health and disease research. You'll add to these modules from a broad range of complementary options.

Your 24-week research project comprises the major element of the course. You'll receive supervision from an expert academic researcher in cardiovascular science research.

    The aims of the module are to: Allow students to undertake a general training in research methods and management within a first class research environment involving an appropriate project exploring one or more aspects of biosciences, health sciences and/or behavioural sciences; To allow intercalating students to experience medical research first hand; Within these aims, the students will experience a range of cutting-edge research within biosciences, health sciences and/or behavioural sciences either in the University, in another higher education institution or in Industry. To enable students to make informed choices about their further career development either medicine, science or business. To enable students to develop a range of professional and key skills, which will enable them to engage in teaching and/or research at an advanced level in higher education or in a senior professional capacity in other fields of employment.

    Entry requirements

    A minimum of a 2:1 honours degree, or international equivalent, in: a life science or related discipline or an MBBS/BDS degree. This programme accepts both medical and dental students wishing to take a master's degree as an intercalation. You will need to have successfully completed your third or fourth year of study. Practical laboratory work experience is desirable, although not essential. The modules you can study may depend on your academic background.
