Course Summary

MA Performing Arts Enterprise is designed for performance artists who want to expand their skills and practice to perform and develop their own work.

The course is offered by The Garage, in association with NUA, and is suited to early to mid-career artists, or those looking to shift their focus.

The entrepreneurial and business development skills needed to make career progress are at the heart of the course – along with building a better understanding of the sector and the opportunities within it.

Teaching takes place at both institutions, with the majority of the programme of study delivered by and at The Garage, a centre for performing arts in the heart of Norwich. Over the past five years The Garage has really honed its work with developing artists, not only to create new and interesting performance pieces but in supporting their business plans and models of working.

This postgraduate course combines the best of this practice of artist and business development, in the dance studios and performance studios where countless performances by many artists have taken place. Students on this programme will explore the cultural landscape to make performance, from core-funded organisations to commercial models; students will interrogate the considerations of project-funded activities and which organisations may be suitable to approach.

Students will benefit from being part of the NUA postgraduate community from day one studying the Research into Practice unit. They will have access to the Library and MA base room throughout the course.

Students who require a Tier 4 Visa to study in the UK are not eligible for this course.
