About Postgraduate Events Management

Event managers oversee the planning and logistics of all kinds of events, from conferences and weddings to stadium tours, festivals and international sporting events. They oversee details like venue selection, catering and entertainment, aiming to create memorable and successful events for clients; they also handle budgets and timelines, to make sure everything runs smoothly.

It’s a rewarding and highly people-oriented profession and to gain entry on to a MSc course, you’ll typically need an undergraduate honours degree with 2:2 in any subject, or substantial experience at senior management level. There are many options to choose from, with over fifty courses in the UK offering many built-in specialisms such as tourism, international, cultural and stage events options.

What to Expect

You can expect a varied curriculum, with topics like event marketing, risk management, programme design and budgeting. Course content will be delivered in several ways, from lectures and seminars to group projects and presentations. You’ll work towards a final dissertation project which will be an extended study into a specific area in events management of your choosing, giving you an opportunity to showcase your ideas and innovative approaches towards the subject.

Graduates are well-suited for roles as event managers, planners or coordinators in industries such as hospitality, entertainment or corporate events; with an MSc qualification, you’ll be able to take on competitive roles in a diversity of workplaces around the UK and beyond.
