About Postgraduate Health Visiting

Health visiting is an important field that combines the practice of nurses and midwives, focused on the delivery of effective nursing and care to different individuals in the community. There is a particular focus on babies, young children and families.

Careers in health visiting may see graduates travelling to different people in the community or based in an accessible location.

There are more than 15 UK universities offering over 20 postgraduate courses in health visiting. These include masters, diplomas and certificate options.

What to expect

Entry requirements do vary from uni to uni and course to course, but you’ll usually need to be a qualified nurse or midwife to be considered. You must also complete an enhanced DBS check.
Typical topics that might be covered include public health, child development and health, family and community health, leadership and management and research and evidence-based practice.

As a postgraduate in health visiting, you might use your knowledge and skills to specialise in community nursing or public health practice.
