Radiography is a branch of medical imaging, which uses radiation to produce images of tissues, organs, bones and vessels within the human body. It is an incredibly useful technique which allows for fast and effective non-invasive diagnosis of a huge range of medical issues.
It is a fundamental part of modern healthcare, and studying for a master’s degree in medical radiography offers advanced knowledge in many types of diagnostic imaging technologies such as X-rays, CT scans and MRI. Entry criteria for a master’s level course generally requires a minimum of a 2:2 undergraduate degree in a health science related subject, and there are 22 courses at 16 universities in the UK which offer this programme.
A master's in medical radiography focuses on advanced knowledge in diagnostic imaging techniques and technologies. Courses are accredited by the Society and College of Radiographers (SCoR) and designed to teach both technical and clinical skills, ideal for those aiming to pursue a career as diagnostic or therapeutic radiographers, or other healthcare professionals. There will be a mixture of theoretical study and clinical practice modules, which are often delivered in collaboration with external clinical educators in the NHS and private healthcare services.
You’ll develop competencies in image interpretation, radiographic reporting, mammography and other core radiography practices, working towards a dissertation which can be presented in several formats such as a systematic review, empirical research or a work-based project.
After graduation, you’ll be ready to pursue a career as an advanced radiographic practitioner, researcher, or educator, contributing to advancements in medical imaging and patient care.
