About Postgraduate Pharmacy

Pharmacy is all about preparing and distributing medical drugs. Pharmacists play a crucial role in healthcare, providing advice on medications, managing prescriptions and contributing to patient health through their expertise in pharmaceuticals and their understanding of how medications interact with the body. They work as part of an interdisciplinary public medical system alongside GPs, hospitals, healthcare providers and biomedical research firms.

To apply for a master’s degree, you’ll need an honours degree in pharmacy, with a minimum classification of 2:2. In the UK, there are more than 140 master’s degree courses available; many of these will carry accreditation by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), ensuring both the highest professional standards and your ability to work in the field.

What to Expect

A master's in pharmacy offers advanced training in pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacy, human biology, disease and physical sciences. Students will gain insights into the origins and development of medical conditions and the mechanisms of drug action. The master’s curriculum extends the work done at undergraduate level and covers proper prescription practices, medication supply and administration, and the fundamentals of disease advancement and medicine optimisation.

Students will do a lot of hands-on training in clinics, research projects and coursework, helping to improve at decision making in clinical situations, taking care of patients and understanding the policies around pharmaceuticals. The programme is flexible, letting students focus on their interests within the profession. Graduates are well-prepared for roles as clinical pharmacists, pharmaceutical researchers or healthcare managers, capable of high-level work in pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors.
