About Postgraduate Psychology

Psychology is the science of the mind and the study of human behaviour. It is a fascinating field, which has a huge number of practical applications in the real world. Psychology can be applied in a healthcare setting or in businesses, professional organisations, elite sports, schools and many more. Just about anywhere that has groups of people interacting with each other.

The PGDip programme in psychology offers a route into becoming a professional psychologist for those who did not study psychology at undergraduate level. It provides an opportunity for a non-psychology graduate or a graduate from a non-BPS accredited course, to meet one of the entry requirements for a postgraduate programme of professional training, by achieving Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC). It is a popular choice and there are more than 50 PGDip courses available to study in the UK.

What to Expect

Expect to gain a solid understanding of key areas in psychology as required by the BPS. This includes learning about historical context, biology, thinking processes, lifespan development, differences between individuals and social psychology and understanding how these areas are connected. Additionally, you will develop hands-on skills in planning, carrying out and sharing the results of your own research project.

Once graduated you’ll be well prepared to take the next steps towards becoming a professional psychologist. Achieving your GBC unlocks various training and employment options in the field of psychology. Graduating from an accredited programme also offers a direct pathway to BPS membership, which gives you access to a wide range of benefits, including services, publications, conferences, training sessions and networking opportunities.
