NEW SEARCHQuantity surveying is a professional discipline within the construction industry that involves managing and controlling costs throughout a construction project's lifecycle. Quantity surveyors play a crucial role in the planning, procurement and financial management of projects and their responsibilities include estimating costs, preparing tender documents, evaluating bids and monitoring project finances. Quantity surveyors work closely with architects, engineers, contractors and clients to ensure that projects are completed within budgetary constraints.
Studying an MSc programme in quantity surveying provides a well-rounded education; you can gain entry to many of the 24 MSc degrees available in the UK with a 2:2 honours degree in any discipline.
The quantity surveying MSc programme provides specialised training in construction cost management, project procurement and contract administration. Students study quantity measurement, construction law and project finance and are assessed in various ways including coursework, examinations and project-based work. They can expect to learn many transferable skills like accountancy, strategy building, interpersonal communication, contract management and advanced timetabling skills.
Graduates are prepared for roles as quantity surveyors, project managers or consultants, contributing to the efficient and cost-effective management of construction projects. Courses are accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in the UK, which ensures graduates meet the highest professional standards in quantity surveying.
