About Postgraduate Sound Engineering

Sound engineering is a multidisciplinary, industry-focused subject that allows students to explore both the technological and artistic elements that underpin good audio. Whether it’s live music, in a studio recording or classical environment, sound engineers are essential professionals who ensure that sounds are accurately outputted or recorded.

Postgraduate students in sound engineering will develop technical expertise across a range of software products and physical audio technology, as well as gain advanced theoretical knowledge of sound which has applications in a range of commercial fields.

There are over 25 postgraduate design courses at more than 20 universities across the UK.

Entry requirements vary depending on the course and university, but you’ll usually need a bachelor’s degree. Sometimes this can be in any subjects, other courses stipulate it must be in a relevant field such as music technology, audio production, sound art, film, video or fine art.
