Sustainability is a highly interdisciplinary field of study and practice, which engages with the environmental, social and economic challenges to which solutions must be found in order to create a sustainable future. It is a vast and increasingly relevant subject area, with significant environmental, political and economic implications.
Students explore topics such as environmental policy, sustainable development and corporate social responsibility. Entry requirements usually include an undergraduate degree of any subject, with a minimum classification of 2:1. Undergraduate degrees in environmental science, economics or a related field are more appropriate, since there is a foundation of knowledge that is relevant to the master’s course.
Due to its widespread application, there are many types of master’s degrees that incorporate sustainability, from aviation to construction, engineering to governance. There are more than fifty different sustainability-oriented master’s degrees in London alone.
London’s many sustainability master’s programmes addressa huge array of disciplines and depending on course specifics, students can explore environmental policy, sustainable development, construction materials or corporate social responsibility. One thing which they have in common is a future-focussed approach, which considers things like produce life cycles, renewable resources, consumer practices and legal matters.
Assessment methods often include coursework, group projects and a final dissertation. Graduates are well-prepared for roles as sustainability consultants, environmental managers or policy analysts, contributing to the advancement of sustainable practices in London and beyond.
