Postgraduate Reviews of Courses at Plymouth Marjon University

Amazing teaching quality, supportive staff and super friendly campus read full review
Marjon is well-known for their Education dept./programmes. The learning is engaging and current, and is applicable to my current job. I have easy access to my tutor, and because I am doing my course online, I can make it fit to my busy schedule. read full review
It's a great campus, everything is easy to find and the library is great. read full review
Great facilities and support form all staff members on my course. read full review
Lack of communication between students and the university. Half of the time students are expected to just know things without being emailed. Canvas is very messy and it is difficult to find materials. Some lecturers have a very patronising tone which doesn't make the students want to reach out for support when it is needed. A lot of repetitive content. the course needs a lot of improvement from the university side, the school-based side is great however, again lack of communication between the university and mentors, where mentors aren't sure of aspects of their role. Instances of trainees not being offered an interview within the trust, even though this has been advertised as a 'guaranteed interview'. The only good aspect is quick response from university tutor and the convenience of online course. the reading list (links) need to be updated as they are wrong or take you to a website unsupported by the university making it difficult to access certain. materials. read full review
I came to university as a mother in my late 20s. The support I have received from the university has been incredible and they have supported me through some very tough times including the loss of a good friend of mine on the course. Without their continued support and care I would not have been able to get to the second year of my studies and I am very grateful to them. My only criticism is the lack of affordable eating options on campus. I have never been able to buy from the canteen due to the prices and the shop sells out of their limited range quickly! Aside from that, I cannot fault this university. I am going to be incredibly sad when I leave and I will be always grateful that I attended this campus. I continue to rave about this university to my friends and family and hopefully have inspired a few of them to join the marjon family in the future! read full review
Facilities are really good on site for example, parking, a gym, swimming pool, chaplaincy, outdoor green spaces, and places to sit when it is sunny to have lunch or a break.
The location is just off the moors so very scenic and easy to get to from either inner city Plymouth, the A38 from Cornwall or Exeter, and the moors and Tavistock, etc.
Student support is amazing, very supportive, and knowledgeable.
Campus look and feel is very chilled and happy and even if you don't know many people, you will find you are always greeted with a smile and a good morning or afternoon in passing which makes you feel very welcome.
I have completed my degree here and I am currently doing a postgrad at the same Uni. I would have to say the main areas I feel there could be an improvement would be the lack of areas students with extra needs have to work in for example, I need to be in an area which doesn't disturb others with the noise I make by using the read aloud facilities, etc whereas I am also easily distracted so I need a quiet place to work. Therefore, although there is a quiet floor in the library, I would not be able to work on it as I need to use read-aloud and watch YouTube videos to enhance my memory and understanding of what we are being taught. A suggestion would be small rooms accessible for students with particular needs which they could book through student support as we do not have access to timetabling.
another area that needs improvement would be the student interaction and information on things like, what is varsity?? Is it just for the people doing sports at the uni? Being able to book accommodation to attend certain events and knowledge of these events... I have been very lucky this past year as I got to attend some of the freshers' events due to asking the student union about accommodation etc but the fact is it has taken 5 years of being here to find this out unfortunately and being a mature student, I didnt know what freshers was or who it was for. I think they just assume you know. On the upside, all the students made me feel very welcome when I stayed on site and went out with them and not like an old person who shouldn't be there. So I thank this University for giving me the opportunity to gain more confidence in myself not only through the learning of new skills on the course but also for the experience I have gained through this interaction with others socially. My only regret is I wish I had all the info sooner.
The student union has seen many different leaders come and go since I first began here and all of them have been very approachable and if they didn't know the answer they would always try to direct you to someone who did. read full review
It is a small university so that's probably why I couldn't give it high starts for most of the above however it has a community feel. I can't comment on the union as I don't access it as I live off site and am on placement most of the year! read full review
The campus is tidy and inviting, with plenty of green spaces to feel calm. The closeness of everything on campus is great and easy to navigate.
The support available is incredible, and available any time of day - this has been the biggest help to me through my undergraduate studies, and now my postgraduate.
The only improvements I can think of are cheaper parking and more modern facilities in the teaching buildings. read full review
I love the small university feel and the size of the classes. The campus is lovely with lots of green space and the facilities are really good read full review
