QUEEN MARGARET UNIVERSITY, EDINBURGH
Overall Rating

Accessibility could be improved, particularly in regards to spacing in disabled toilets. The campus has a modern look and feel and the urban area surrounding the uni makes for a homely feel. This is nice, especially for students who have left home to study at Queen Margaret. The library has large, floor to ceiling, windows which is promotes a vibrant environment to learn in however can be distracting as it is open plan and so noise carries throughout the university pretty loudly. This hustle is a buzzing environment to be in when stepping onto campus for an early lecture though, really wakes you up. The food facilities are pretty good, having an area (The Nook) that you can self serve really sets you up for a great day as you can have as much time to yourself as you may require in the morning before socialising in lectures. The beautiful nature surrounding the campus is tranquil to wander around during breaks between classes or at the end of a long day. There is ample space to chill out, socialise or grab a bite.

Accommodation

The convenience of the campus residences is particularly appealing. Being right next door to your university keeps my mind at ease as I know I have so many amenities that I could utilise to study within nearby. Everyone gets their own en suite in their room which is a massive bonus as hygiene is highly valued, especially to feel more comfortable having moved from home to uni. Having your very own space to practise self care acts and set up as your own is so important. Rooms are spacious and have ample desk and storage space which is amazing, especially for laying out all your study material to properly analyse it. There is campus security on hand 24/7 if there are any concerns and have responded quickly and effectively in my experience to any worries from residents. The accommodation services are similarly efficient in identifying or responding to reports of missing items, broken facilities or other issues raised. The services are easily accessible, having a reception that has 9-5 opening hours and 24/7 online services available. Overall it feels a safe and comfortable environment to be in, the kitchens are spacious and there is plenty of storage for a full flat, that would hold 6 people. Transport links are close by and so there is no shortage of places to visit while living in student halls.
