Royal Holloway was opened by Queen Victoria in 1886 and the university has its roots in two pioneering colleges for women, Royal Holloway College and Bedford College. The university is set on a 135 acre campus, which is located in Egham, Surrey, 40 minutes south west of central London and just 7 miles from Heathrow airport.
