Course Summary

The course facilitates the development of the skills required for a multi-stranded art career that combines flexibility, skills and experience by building your confidence to become pro-active and empowered to seek and generate fulfilling career opportunities. Study a range of learning experiences in contemporary practice including materials-led approaches to research, self-reflection, and critical strategies that enhance skills in the studio. Complete a body of art work, a professional strategy, and develop refined critical skills. Build a portfolio and develop create work in one of the most highly rated research communities in the sector. Develop advanced skills in critical research methodologies methods and specialised knowledge leading to an individual studio practice. An advanced program of study to explore, refine and develop you artistic practice, this course allows you to participate in activities that help acquire skills. These include a range of practical skills such as painting, sculpture, digital making, drawing as well as writing, curating, exhibitions and others. This course prepares you for a career as: a professional artist and/or maker; an academic researcher and developer; arts manager; arts administrator.

Entry requirements

Students need to have an honours degree in an Art and Design subject at 2:1 standard (2:2 may be accepted in exceptional circumstances such as related experience and/or high standard of portfolio). You will have to submit evidence, in the form of an identifiable body of work, of significant creative ability and a commitment to theoretical issues in fine art.
