Applied Research MSc

The MSc Applied Research allows you to design your postgraduate study to meet your research and career aspirations.

The degree combines developing research applications with real world experience to support your employment options following graduation.

You can study in any of the following academic areas in the University in which we have research expertise:

• Archaeology
• Biology
• Policing, Criminal Investigation and Safeguarding
• Psychology
• Sport and exercise

This course combines academic study and applied research with real-world experience. It provides a unique opportunity to learn from others researching in different areas, using different methodologies and presenting in different formats. It also gives you the opportunity to explore your research interests in various ways across all modules.

The uniqueness of this award is the use of research in developing transferrable employability skills as well as enhanced subject-specific knowledge. You will complete the independent major research project prior to dissemination or exhibition - this ensures a journey from research design to dissemination to a wider audience at postgraduate level.

On successful completion of study, we will issue the following award: MSc Applied Research.

Students need to have an honours degree in a related area, typically 2:1 classification. However, experience relevant to your discipline area and potential to work at Masters level will also be considered when offering a place. Your application should include a short proposal of your research so that we can make sure that we can provide you with supervision. You can do this in the ‘Personal Statement’ section.
