The Investment Management course at Swansea University is our flagship programme focusing on finance and investment management and you will gain an advanced understanding of managing assets and risk in complex organisations.

This advanced programme is for students who have already studied accounting and/ or finance, at undergraduate level.

Your degree is accredited by the Chartered Financial Analyst Institute (CFA) with University Affiliated Programme status. You will also have the opportunity to pursue a further professional CFA qualification alongside your master’s degree.

Modules

This module is designed to provide an understanding of commonly used quantitative methods applied in the finance sector as well as providing an overview of the economic environment that finance firms operate in. On completion of this module students should be able to: Demonstrate a systematic understanding of quantitative techniques, and a critical awareness of relevant issues in the area of current professional practice related to quantitative methods in finance; Apply quantitative methods and demonstrate a practical understanding of established, applied techniques of quantitative analysis as used to interpret knowledge and practice in uncertain environments; Evaluate methodologies and develop critiques and, where appropriate, propose new practices in complex scenarios; Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of microeconomics and macroeconomics and of their application in investment management; Demonstrate an ability to identify, evaluate and critically appraise the economic factors, tools and environmental influences affecting financial markets.

Entry requirements

Students must attain a 2:2 (or overseas equivalent) in an undergraduate degree that has included a range of modules in accounting/finance or quantitative/statistical methods. This need not necessarily be a degree with accounting or finance in the title.
