Course overview

This course is suitable for registered midwives who have successfully completed the PgDip midwifery course at level 7.

This course is available to all practising midwives holding a Postgraduate Diploma in Midwifery. It enables you to build on your level 7 studies to gain an MSc in Midwifery Studies by undertaking a research project module. This gives you the opportunity to explore a self-selected area relevant to national or global midwifery practice. You can study this module on a full-time or part-time basis, or by distance e course has two entry points a year – September and January. If you start in September you complete in May. If you prefer a January start date you will complete in July. You are supported by an academic supervisor throughout the module.

How you learn

Key research lectures are provided at the start of the module and independent learning is supported by supervision tutorials. These are also available online through our e-learning site.

How you are assessed

Your summative assessment is a 15,000-word account of your research project. If you start in September your dissertation submission date is May. If you start in January, it’s July.

Applicants must: have successfully completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Midwifery course in the UK; be currently registered as a midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and practicing as a midwife.
