Course Summary

The MSc is designed to equip individuals with the necessary academic and professional qualities to undertake the role of Anaesthesia Associate (AA). Blending online learning with practical skills in the clinical environment, you will be taught by a faculty of currently practicing experts in the peri-operative field. This programme is suited to both experienced healthcare professionals or life science graduates.

This MSc covers all components of the UK Royal College of Anaesthetists' curriculum (2008) and includes aspects of professionalism, life sciences and practical skills. As part of the programme, students will complete a systematic review, learning the fundamentals of data synthesis, analysis and reporting in an area of clinical practice which interests them.

The role of Anaesthesia Associate is a new and evolving role in the NHS. It is an exciting opportunity to train to become a member of the peri-operative team and to extend the NHS blended workforce ambition. This Anaesthesia and Perioperative Science MSc will provide an internationally recognised qualification, essential for entrance into the UK based career as an Anaesthesia Associate.

Entry requirements

A minimum of an upper second-class Honours degree in biomedical science or biological science from a UK university, or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard. Applications from registered healthcare professionals (examples are nurses or operating department practitioners) with at least three years clinical experience and/or degree level studies will also considered.
